About Laura
I am an experienced registered psychologist in private practice working across the life-space with children (5+), adolescents and adults. I work with with a variety of clients, including children/adolescents struggling with anxiety, self-esteem, low mood, and difficulties at school or with post-separation dynamics in the family, adults/adolescents seeking treatment for general mental health presentations, navigating difficult life circumstances or transition points, clients exploring sexuality or gender identity, as well as individuals seeking more direction/joy and connection with themselves and others in life. I also work with clients seeking help to address concerns around eating/body-image , OCD, substance abuse (or other compulsive behaviours), and clients seeking therapeutic work to address the impact of single-incident or cumulative trauma.
I honour diversity in my practice and have experience working with LGBTIQA+ clients (including supporting children/adolescents exploring gender identity) as well as working with clients from a variety of cultural backgrounds.
Therapeutic work can be short, medium or longer-term depending on needs and what you are looking for. In this work I place an emphasis on creating a safe, collaborative and interesting therapy space to foster new insights and change. I believe strongly in the recovery and growth that can happen in the therapy space and within the therapeutic relationship. My approach is integrative, meaning I draw from a variety of evidence-based therapies depending on the fit with the person and the issues they are presenting with. While I am also informed by the medical model, I work more from a whole-person in the context of their life approach. In work with children I use play therapy, creative interventions and talking therapy in combination with work with the family.
I am also able to provide appointments in German and Finnish and provide supervision for clinicians early in their career.
